Tony set for surgery

Hull FC utility player Motu Tony is to go under the surgeon's knife in a bid to get rid of an ankle infection.

Tony, who usually operates at full-back for the Black & Whites, sustained the infection from what was thought to be caused by an insect bite.

Tony has suffered an injury-hit season, with a knee problem forcing him to be just one of several Hull players to be forced into the KC Stadium treatment room.

He featured in Hull's 24-12 loss at Warrington Wolves last week, but has made just five Super League appearances all season.

Hull have endured yet another injury-plagued season.Just four players currently remain on the shelf due to injuries, but over the past two seasons, the club have endured extensive problems.

Wingers Tom Briscoe and Mark Calderwood have both been hit by long-term injuries, although Calderwood is close to returning following a pectoral tear.

With Craig Hall being loaned out to Championship side Widnes, Hull are short of cover in the outside back division.

Peter Cusack and Danny Washbrook are also out for a significant amount of time, with both in a race against time to regain fitness before the end of the regular season.
